Sri Racha, Chonburi Province, August 23rd, 2024– In a coordinated effort, the Sri Racha District Administration and Bo Win Police Station arrested three Cambodian monks who had illegally entered Thailand and was collecting alms.
At 2:50 p.m., Mr. Nopparat Sriphrom, Sri Racha District Chief, and Pol. Col. Anek Sathongyu, Superintendent of Bo Win Police Station, led a team of police officers, including Mr. Banjong Kaewmanee, village headman of Village No. 5, Bo Win Subdistrict, assistant village headmen, Village Defense Volunteers, and the Lion Guard Unit of Sri Racha District. They ambushed and arrested the monks hiding in a cassava plantation along Amata City-Nong Khae Road, following complaints from local residents.
Upon inspection, three Cambodian monks were found speaking loudly in Khmer. The officers discovered a large amount of food, both savory and sweet, drinking water, and dried food, scattered around their tent and hanging on trees. The area was littered with scraps of paper, bags, and water bottles.
The monks were escorted out of the plantation and taken to Santikiri Temple to be disrobed. They were then brought to Bo Win Police Station to face legal action for illegal entry into the country. Following legal proceedings, they will be deported back to Cambodia.
The monks were not identified by authorities by name.
