Nan —
At 2:10 PM on August 24th, 2024, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and relevant agencies visited flood-hit areas in Phu Phiang District, Nan Province.
According to Thai national media, Paetongtarn personally handed out relief bags to affected residents and inquired about their living conditions, offering words of concern and encouragement during this challenging time.
Furthermore, Thai national media noted that Paetongtarn waded through floodwaters to deliver relief supplies directly to the homes of those stranded by the floods. Some areas on higher ground have seen water levels recede, allowing residents to return, though cleanup and restoration efforts are still necessary.
Previously, Deputy PM Phumtham Wechayachai oversaw flood relief efforts in Northern Thailand.
Paetongtarn mentioned her discussions with Anutin Charnvirakul, Acting Minister of the Interior, about the urgent need for recovery and rehabilitation efforts. She stressed that post-flood restoration, including addressing health concerns like rat fever, must be prioritised by the Ministry of Public Health.
On the same day, Paetongtarn was scheduled to visit Mueang District in Nan, but road closures due to flooding prevented her from traveling. She instead entrusted local Pheu Thai MPs with the task of distributing relief bags, emphasizing the need to deliver aid promptly.
