Pattaya City– On the afternoon of August 22nd, 2024, Mr. Khosit Suwinijjit, Advisor to the Acting Minister of Public Health, presided over the opening ceremony of the MEMS-REX 2024 maritime medical emergency response plan exercise in Pattaya.

The event, held at Bali Hai Pier, aimed to build confidence in maritime safety for tourists. Certificates of honor were presented to participating agencies by Mr. Suwinijjit, with Group Captain Dr. Atchariya Pangma, Secretary-General of the National Institute of Emergency Medicine, reporting on the proceedings.

The ceremony saw the attendance of notable figures including Mr. Poramese Ngampiches, Mayor of Pattaya City, and Mr. Kritsana Boonsawat, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya City. Executives and representatives from various relevant agencies also participated, such as the 1st Region Marine Interests Protection Center, 1st Region Naval Command, National Institute of Emergency Medicine, Marine Police Division, Marine Department, Aphakornkiatwong Hospital, Sattahip Naval Base, Pattaya City Police Station, and Chonburi Hospital.

The MEMS-REX 2024 exercise, organized by the 1st Region Marine Interests Protection Center (MRCP) in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health, 1st Region Naval Command, Marine Police Division, Pattaya City Marine Department, Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation, and the National Institute of Emergency Medicine, took place from August 21-22, 2024. Theoretical training was conducted on August 21 at the Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya.

The highlight of the event was the field emergency response exercise, which simulated a virtual emergency situation involving land, air, and sea operations. The exercise aimed to assist, coordinate, and transport sick individuals at sea, reviewing guidelines for emergency medical services coordination. This training ensured that operators gained knowledge and understanding of emergency medical services for maritime incidents, enabling them to safeguard the lives and property of the public and tourists efficiently and effectively.

The MEMS-REX 2024 exercise is a significant step towards reducing losses and enhancing the safety of the public and tourists at sea, thereby fostering a positive image for Pattaya City.

Many TPN media readers contacted us asking if the operation was an actual emergency, having seen helicopters and many ambulances on local beaches, but luckily the situation was only an exercise and drill.
