Update: Search Resumes for Missing Passengers After C208 Plane Crash in Chachoengsao

Chachoengsao —

At 9:00 AM on August 23rd, 2024, Thai national media reported the ongoing search for missing passengers from the crash of a small C208 aircraft, flight TFT209, en route from Suvarnabhumi to Koh Mai Chi, Trat. The plane went down near Wat Khao Din in Bang Pakong, Chachoengsao.

The incident left five Chinese passengers including children, two crew members, and two pilots missing along with the aircraft’s cabin. The search was halted at 2:00 AM but was set to resume today (August 23rd) with specialized long-arm excavators brought in overnight to dig deeper, beyond 10 meters, into the mud where the cabin is believed to be buried.

Pieces of the aircraft recovered during the previous night’s search, including 69 human remains, have been transported to the Khao Din Subdistrict Administrative Organization for safekeeping. The human remains have been sent to the Police Hospital for further identification.

The Chachoengsao Public Relations Office clarified that the aircraft did not have a flight data recorder or black box, relying solely on radio communication with air traffic control. The airline confirmed that the aircraft was insured, and the insurance company has pledged to cover all damages.

As of press time, the investigation is still going to determine the exact cause of the plane crash, noted TPN.
