On August 19th, 2024, Dr. Thongchai Keeratihatthayakorn, Director-General of the Department of Disease Control, announced that all retail tobacco sellers must display anti-smoking campaign materials starting August 21st, 2024.
This coincides with the enforcement of the new Ministry of Public Health regulations, which require tobacco retailers to prominently display a campaign poster, at least 7×21 cm in size, in a visible area during business hours, said Dr. Thongchai.
According to Dr. Thongchai, the aim is to raise awareness among customers, particularly children and youth, about the dangers of tobacco use. Retailers can obtain these posters either from local excise offices or download them from the Tobacco Products Control Committee’s website.
Failure to comply with these regulations will result in a fine of up to 5,000 baht, in accordance with the Tobacco Products Control Act 2017.
