South Korean Man Arrested in Bed by Pattaya Police for Possessing Illegal Drugs and Illegal Entry into Thailand

Pattaya —

A South Korean national was arrested in Pattaya for illegal drug possession and unauthorized entry into Thailand after evading Thai immigration.

At 9:36 PM on August 14th, 2024, a team of Pattaya police arrested Mr. Jimjung Kim, a 45-year-old South Korean national, at a house in Pattaya, Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. He was found in possession of illegal drugs, including crystal meth and ecstasy, and was also charged with illegal entry into Thailand.

The arrest followed an investigation by the Tourist Police Division 4, which discovered that Mr. Kim had secretly entered Thailand through a natural border crossing and was using and carrying drugs while residing in a condominium in Jomtien. Police requested a search warrant from the Pattaya Provincial Court and arrested Mr. Kim at a local home. He was still in bed having just gone to sleep wearing only a towel when police raided the house.

During the search, officers requested to see Mr. Kim’s passport. However, the man reportedly admitted to sneaking into Thailand through a natural route from the Thai-Cambodian border and did not have valid entry documents. The search of the house also revealed 1.5 grams of crystal meth and 0.4 grams of ecstasy, along with drug paraphernalia, which Mr. Kim reportedly acknowledged as his own.

Pattaya police escorted Mr. Kim to his condominium but found no illegal items there. Immigration records indicated that Mr. Kim was previously banned from entering Thailand under the Thai Ministry of Interior’s order No. 1/2558 dated November 27th, 2015. His entry was prohibited for 10 years starting December 27th, 2019, and will end on December 27th, 2029.

Mr. Kim was taken into custody along with the drugs and will face charges for illegal entry into Thailand, drug use, and possession of illegal drugs.
