82-Year-Old Cyclist Killed in Crash with Pickup Truck in Pattaya

An 82-year-old cyclist was tragically killed when his bicycle was crashed into by a pickup truck in the Naklua area, Pattaya, at 6 AM today.

On August 15th, 2024, Banglamung police received a report of a fatal vehicle collision opposite the entrance to Soi Sukhumvit Pattaya 6, Naklua sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Following the report, police, along with rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation, rushed to the scene.

Upon arrival, authorities found Mr. Chaisit Kanchanakrajang, 82, lying critically wounded on the road. A bicycle was lying beside him with the rear wheel twisted. Nearby, an Isuzu D-Max pickup truck was parked with visible front-end damage. The driver, Mr. Thapanapong Natthachirawattanakun, 39, was waiting to provide a statement to the authorities.

Mr. Thapanapong, who works as a security guard, explained that he was driving to work when he reached the scene. Initially, he did not see the cyclist. As he reached for something, he looked up and saw the bicycle in front of his vehicle. He was unable to stop in time and collided with the bicycle, causing the cyclist to be thrown onto the road. He immediately called for rescue services.

Mr. Chaisit, the injured cyclist, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene by the Banglamung Hospital’s medical team. The police detained Mr. Thapanapong for further questioning and have charged him with reckless driving causing death.
