Pattani —
On August 9th, 2024, Pattani local media reported that unidentified assailants detonated a car bomb behind a police apartment and planted two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Mueang, Pattani.
The blasts caused extensive damage to the police apartment and nearby shops. As of August 10th, Pattani authorities sealed off the area near the fishing pier for safety, as bomb squads and forensic teams had yet to inspect the scene. There was concern that additional explosives might be hidden to target responding officers.
Investigations revealed that the car used in the bombing was destroyed by the explosion, which occurred behind the police apartment near the entrance to the fishing pier. The assailants carefully planned the attack, aiming to harm police officers and damage property.
Before detonating the car bomb, the assailants set off two IEDs near a security post at the Pattani pier, about 50 meters from the car bomb site, at 1:30 PM. The car bomb then exploded at 2:00 PM, intending to injure officers who were approaching the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the police or civilians.
Pattani authorities were then intensively tracking the suspects using CCTV footage from the area and nearby routes. All police stations were ordered to heighten security to prevent further incidents.
