On August 10th, 2024, the National Astronomical Research Institute (NARIT) publicized an observation of the “Mother’s Day Meteor Shower” or Perseids Meteor Shower, with its radiant point in the Perseus constellation, located in the northeastern sky.
This year (2024), the shower is expected to peak at about 100 meteors per hour, observable from 11:00 PM on August 12th, until dawn on August 13th.
The event coincides with a half-moon, so the best viewing time is after midnight, when the moon sets. NARIT recommends watching from areas away from city lights for an optimal experience. The best way to enjoy the meteor shower is by lying down and observing with the naked eye.
While the Perseids can be seen across Thailand, the country is currently in its rainy season, and heavy rain in some areas may obstruct the view. However, those who miss this event can look forward to other meteor showers, as they occur annually.
