Pattaya City Signs MOU For Sustainable Temple Development Project

Pattaya, August 7, 2024 – Pattaya City Hall’s Meeting Room 221 hosted a significant event in which Mr. Poramese Ngampiches, Mayor of Pattaya City, presided over the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the project “Temple, People, State, Create Happiness for Sustainable Development.” This initiative aims to develop temples using a 5S approach, fostering a harmonious and sustainable environment.

The ceremony was attended by notable figures including Phra Khru Phisan Chariyakon, Abbot of Wat Tham Samakkhi, Phra Khru Si Pariyatti Worakit Kittinat, Assistant Abbot of Wat Chaimongkhon (Royal Monastery), Ms. Sthaporn Lawirot, Director of Pattaya City School 6, Mr. Montree Namkiri, Director of Pattaya City School 8, Ms. Tueanjai Deerobram, President of Wat Tham Samakkhi Community, and Ms. Naree Simok, President of the Wat Chaimongkhon Community. The event was also graced by Lt. Col. Chanyut Yangpreeda, a member of the Mayor’s working group, Mr. Noppasit Cha Na Nakorn, Director of the Education Office, and other relevant officials who served as witnesses.

The MOU marks a collaborative effort between Pattaya City, government agencies, temples, schools, and communities. The pilot project includes Wat Chaimongkol (Royal Monastery), Wat Thammasamutkhi, Pattaya City School 6, Pattaya City School 8, Wat Thammasamutkhi Community, and Wat Chaimongkol Community. This initiative aligns with the policies of Chonburi Province and the Department of Local Administration.

The project’s objective is to organize temple systems and regulations to create suitable areas for Buddhists, enhancing the environment for meditation and health promotion using the 5S approach. This method focuses on environmental management, fostering a good society, and strengthening relationships between temples, government agencies, educational institutions, and communities. The project aims to create a healthy environment for monks and promote Buddhist activities.

Key activities under this project include:

1. **Policy creation for knowledge dissemination to monks and novices**
2. **Promotion and support of temple-related activities and projects**
3. **Coordination with temples and stakeholders for project implementation**
4. **Organization of 5S activities and a Big Cleaning Day to maintain cleanliness and order**
5. **Provision of 5S principles such as knowledge for sustainable project activities**

The project will be monitored, evaluated, and reported to ensure its success and sustainability. This initiative aims to make Pattaya a city of well-being, fostering strength in mind and body, and ensuring sustainable happiness for all sectors.
