Thailand Sees Tourism Surge with 17 Million More Visitors in 2024, Revenue Hits 200 Billion Baht

National —

On August 9th, 2024, Thai Government spokesperson Chai Watcharong provided an update on the administration’s achievements in tourism over the past year.

Chai highlighted the success of the IGNITE THAILAND campaign, which has played a crucial role in boosting the economy and revitalizing the tourism sector.

He noted that since January 2024, tourism in Thailand has seen a significant increase, with both domestic and international visitors surging by approximately 17 million compared to the previous year. This uptick has generated over 200 billion baht in revenue, surpassing last year’s figures.

Chai attributed this growth to various measures implemented by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, including the promotion of regional tourism activities and the introduction of visa-free policies that have made travel more accessible. He emphasized that these efforts have not only revived tourism but have also driven the sector beyond pre-pandemic levels.

“If I were to grade our performance, it would be an A++,” Chai said, praising the government’s success in stimulating the economy. He further projected that in the second half of 2024, tourist arrivals could potentially reach 24.7 million, generating at least 650 billion baht in revenue.

Looking ahead, Chai expressed confidence that the various tourism initiatives would make 2025 a “golden year” for Thailand’s tourism industry.
