A Chinese tourist reportedly rode a motorbike against traffic and collided with a police officer in Pattaya at 12:00 AM today, July 31st, 2024.
The accident took place on Pattaya Second Road at the entrance of Soi 9, Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene.
Upon arrival, rescuers found a crowd of onlookers gathering around a white Honda PCX motorcycle. The motorbike had collided with a Pattaya Police’s patrol motorcycle. The patrol bike sustained damage, but fortunately, the police officer was only slightly injured. The officer received initial first aid from the rescue team before being taken to a local hospital.
Eyewitnesses told The Pattaya News reporters that the police officer was exiting Soi 9 onto Second Road when the Chinese tourist, who was driving the motorcycle in the wrong direction at high speed, collided with the police bike, causing the officer to be thrown off his vehicle. After the accident, the tourist allegedly attempted to flee but was apprehended by nearby citizens. The rescue team also provided first aid to the tourist at the scene.
Both the names of the injured police and the tourist were not immediately identified by the rescue team.
The tourist is reportedly facing legal action.
