Phetchaburi —
On July 23rd, 2024, Tha Mai Ruak police, in coordination with other relevant agencies from Phetchaburi, apprehended 85 illegal immigrants at a residence in Tha Yang, Phetchaburi.
The operation was prompted by local residents who reported a group of suspicious individuals living in Nong Ta Chao Village, Tha Yang. The authorities detained over 85 immigrants, including two children, and transported them to the Tha Mai Ruak police station for further questioning and legal action.
The immigrants, originally from Myanmar, had entered Thailand illegally through an unofficial border crossing in Mae Sot, Tak. They were subsequently transported to Phetchaburi in three pickup trucks with the intention of continuing their journey to Malaysia for work.
Each immigrant had reportedly paid 50,000-60,000 baht to three Thai agents involved in the smuggling operation. As of press time, no Thai nationals have been arrested, and their identities remain unknown, according to The Pattaya News reporters.
The Tha Mai Ruak police have charged the immigrants with illegal entry and related offenses, and the case has been handed over to inquiry police for further legal proceedings.
