Pattaya – In a proactive effort to address and mitigate drug issues within educational institutions, Pattaya City organized a seminar on July 23rd 2024 at Pattaya City School 3 (Wat Sawang Fa Pruettharam). The event was chaired by Mrs. Jidapa Suwatthaporn, a member of the Pattaya City Council and chairman of the Basic Education Committee.
This seminar, held for the second time in 2024, is part of a broader project aimed at enhancing the efficiency of drug prevention and resolution strategies. The target audience for this initiative comprised 100 students from Mathayom 1 level.
The Drug Addiction Prevention and Solution Division, under the Administrative Division of the Pattaya City Permanent Secretary’s Office, spearheaded the event. The division recognizes the severe impact of drug problems on both the economy and society. Despite ongoing efforts by various stakeholders to curb this issue, drug problems persist, particularly within educational institutions.
The seminar emphasized the importance of implementing strategies to build resilience and prevent drug use among students. This aligns with the government’s strategy and national agenda to develop effective corrective measures.
The increasing severity of drug problems among children and youth is a growing concern. As Thai society transitions from an agricultural to an industrial and information-based society, urban living and technological advancements expose children and youth to numerous risks. These include exposure to modern media that promotes behaviors such as sex, violence, crime, and drug use.
Addressing the drug problem is an urgent priority that requires collective action say Pattaya City officials. Understanding and preventing drug issues among students is crucial, as children and youth represent a vital human resource and the future of the country.
