Pattaya —
Ms. Morakot Kuldilok, President of the Eastern Thai Hotel Association, announced that this year’s Pattaya Marathon had attracted over 15,000 runners, leading to nearly full occupancy in hotels across North Pattaya. Hotels in Central Pattaya also reported high bookings.
Ms. Morakot stated that room bookings in North Pattaya had reached over 70-80% occupancy, with similar numbers in Central Pattaya. Hotel operators also provided guests with traffic information to help them avoid congestion during the competition.
Each year, the Pattaya Marathon draws a large number of visitors, which positively impacts the local economy. In addition to hotel bookings, there had also been an increase in overall spending in the city, Ms. Morakot said.
Local residents were mostly pleased with the marathon, as it brought economic benefits to the community. However, some residents and tourists complained about the hours-long traffic closure by relevant authorities and the fact that the event was held on Thailand’s religious holiday, which banned alcohol sales, prompting spending to not be as high as it possibly could have been.
