On July 21st, 2024, the Thai Meteorological Department forecasted the weather conditions from July 22-27.
During this period, a moderate southwest monsoon will continue to cover the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, while a monsoon trough will shift over Myanmar, upper Vietnam, and southern China.
This weather pattern will result in reduced rainfall across Thailand. However, heavy rainfall is still expected in some areas of the south, with heavy rain in the upper northeast, the east, and the western parts of the north and central regions.
Moderate winds and waves are anticipated in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Waves will reach about 2 meters in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand, and 1-2 meters in the lower Andaman Sea and the lower Gulf of Thailand, with waves exceeding 2 meters in areas with thunderstorms.
Additionally, a depression in the upper South China Sea is likely to intensify into a tropical storm, expected to pass over Hainan Island and make landfall in southern China between July 21-23. Another tropical storm in the Pacific Ocean is predicted to move towards eastern China between July 24-26. However, neither storm is expected to directly affect Thailand’s weather.
The Meteorological Department warns residents to be cautious of heavy rainfall and accumulated rain, which may cause flash floods and water runoff, particularly in hilly areas, near waterways, and low-lying areas, from July 21-22.
Mariners in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea are advised to proceed with caution and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms.
