Pattaya –
On the evening of July 20th, 2024, Buddhists gathered at Wat Chai Mongkol, a temple in the heart of South Pattaya’s business district near Walking Street, to celebrate Asarnha Bucha Day. This significant day in Buddhism, which falls on the 15th day of the waxing moon of the 8th month, commemorates the Lord Buddha’s first sermon.
The temple was bustling with activity as families and children participated in a candlelight procession and made merit, creating a vibrant and lively atmosphere reminiscent of past celebrations. In addition to the procession, the temple organized multiple merit-making activities, including candle casting for Buddhist Lent and gilding Buddha images for good fortune. There was also a bustling market with fantastic food and other items.
The event saw a large turnout, with many attendees bringing their families to partake in the various activities, contributing to a sense of community and spiritual enrichment.
The evening’s festivities highlighted the enduring significance of Asarnha Bucha Day in the lives of local Buddhists and the broader Pattaya community.
Today, July 21st, 2024, is the first day of Buddhist Lent and will see even more lively atmospheres at local temples in Pattaya.
