Foreign Beggar Gang Allegedly Exploits Pattaya Temple Festival, Residents Call for Police Action

Pattaya —

Local residents in Pattaya are calling for police to take action against a group of foreign beggars, believed to be Cambodian nationals, who exploited a temple fair to solicit money.

The beggars were seen sitting at various points throughout Wat Chaimongkol in South Pattaya during the recent “Wien Thian” candle procession ceremony on the night of July 20th, 2024.

According to local residents, their presence caused significant disruption to festival attendees. Some beggars were also spotted holding young children, some under 10 years old, in order to solicit passerby’ sympathy. Concerned citizens were doubtful if these children really belonged to the beggars or if they were the victims of human-trafficking.

Authorities are urged to take serious action against these individuals. It is important to note that this is not the first occurrence. Although government agencies have launched multiple crackdown on the individuals, the report suggests these same groups return after a short period of absence, causing repeated disruption to both residents and tourists alike.
