Ban Si Maharacha Municipal School in Sri Racha Marks Buddhist Holidays

Sri Racha – On July 20th, 2024, teachers and students from Ban Si Maharacha Municipal School participated in a candle procession at Wat Sri Maharacha to celebrate the Buddhist Lent Candle Offering Ceremony.

The event was led by Ms. Kornwan Temeesorn, Deputy Mayor of Sri Racha, Mrs. Darunee Wisetchonlathar, Director of the Education Division of Sriracha Municipality, and Mr. Suchat Khamphamai, Deputy Director of Ban Si Maharacha Municipality School.

The ceremony aimed to uphold and preserve the rich cultural traditions of Thailand. The beautifully decorated procession started from the school and made its way to Wat Sri Maharacha and Wat Rat Niyom Tham. This event provided an opportunity for students to learn about the significance of important Buddhist days.

The tradition of offering candles during the Buddhist Lent dates back to the time of the Buddha. Buddhists believe that offering candles to monks during this period brings wisdom and clarity, symbolized by the light of the candle. The Buddhist Lent, or Khao Phansa, is a time when monks refrain from traveling to avoid harming crops, insects, and small animals, and instead focus on practicing and studying the Dhamma and Vinaya.

The event was a vibrant display of community spirit, with participants engaging in activities that highlight the importance of maintaining and passing down these beautiful traditions to future generations.
