Pattaya, Thailand – The 31st Pattaya Marathon commenced with great enthusiasm on July 20th, 2024, featuring distances of 10k and 4.5k. Thai and international runners eagerly joined the first day of the competition.
At 5:45 a.m., the event was officially opened at the Start/Finish area in front of Terminal 21 Pattaya Shopping Center, Chonburi Province. The ceremony was chaired by Mr. Thawatchai Srithong, Governor of Chonburi Province. He was joined by Dr. Penpisut Jintasophon, Secretary to the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Weekit Manarojkit, Bang Lamung District Chief, Mr. Manoch Nongyai, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya City, and Mrs. Kobkarn Watthanangkun, former Minister of Tourism and Sports. Together, they released the runners for the Quarter Marathon and the 4.5k distance categories, which included wheelchair and family runs.
More than 5,000 participants took part in the 10k and 4.5k categories, showcasing their energy and determination. Despite the rain in Pattaya earlier in the morning, the weather did not deter the runners, who added vibrancy to the event and boosted the local tourism economy.
The Pattaya Marathon is scheduled to continue over two days, from July 20-21, 2024. The first day featured the quarter marathon, 10k, and 4.5k distances, including wheelchair and family runs, with participants from various countries. The event is expected to generate significant income for Pattaya City.
The excitement continues tomorrow, July 21, 2024, with the marathon and half marathon categories. The “Iron Lung” runners, both Thai and international, will compete, with the launch starting at 3:30 a.m.
