Chinese Man in Pattaya Claims He was Robbed and His Sister Abducted

Pattaya —

A Chinese man reported to Pattaya police that he was robbed and his sister was abducted by a group of Chinese nationals in Pattaya. However, police are investigating alleged inconsistencies in his account.

An update on this story can be found here.

The man, identified by Pattaya Police as Mr. Qian Peng Yi, 34, claimed that he was robbed by three Chinese men at his home in a luxury housing estate in Pattaya. He alleged that the men tied him up, threatened him with a gun, and demanded 10 million baht.

According to Mr. Yi, the incident occurred on the evening of July 17th, 2024. He was at home playing video games when three men allegedly broke in, one of whom brandished a gun. The men then tied Mr. Yi’s hands and feet, gagged him, and taped his head, before demanding 10 million baht in cash.

Mr. Yi claimed that the men threatened to kill his sister, Ms. Tu Peizhi, 33, who was also sleeping in another room of the house, if he did not comply with their order. He was then left alone while the men ransacked the house.

After an hour, Mr. Yi managed to break free from his restraints and escape the house. He then contacted a friend and went to the police station to file a report, alleging the thieves also abducted his sister.

Pattaya police stated that there were signs of property being ransacked on both the ground floor and the second floor of Mr. Yi’s house. In the living room, they discovered plastic cables scattered across the kitchen floor. Mr. Yi also sustained marks resembling restraints on his wrists and ankles. The police collected the cables as evidence.

Initially, Mr. Yi reported that his laptop, mobile phone, and an iPad were missing. Additionally, he expressed deep concern for his sister’s safety and urged the police to help bring her back.

Pattaya police are investigating the incident. However, they also discovered some inconsistencies in Mr. Yi’s story.

According to Pattaya police, Mr. Yi’s sister, Ms. Peizhi, reportedly left Thailand at 1 AM on July 18th just hours after the alleged kidnapping, based on her passport records. This has raised suspicions among investigators.

The police are currently reviewing all available evidence and interviewing Mr. Yi further to determine the truth behind the incident. The Pattaya News will provide updates as the investigation progresses.
