Banglamung police apprehended a Thai chicken vendor for possession of a large quantity of methamphetamine tablets.
The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Mr. Peeradej Boonchu, was arrested on Tuesday, July 16th, 2024. He was suspected of having been selling the drugs to teenagers, young adults, and migrant workers around Chonburi province.
The arresting operation was prompted based on intelligence from the Anti-Narcotics Department of the Banglamung Police Station. They received information that a large methamphetamine delivery would arrive at the Banglamung area on July 16th. Following up on this lead, officers identified a Honda Civic car suspected to be carrying the drugs. However, the vehicle’s driver managed to evade arrest after an intense car chase along Highway 36 (Pattaya-Rayong).
Banglamung police continued their investigation and identified Mr. Peeradej as the prime suspect. They contacted him and arranged an undercover operation, eventually leading to his arrest. Police arrested Mr. Peeradej at a som tam restaurant in the Pluak Daeng district, Rayong province.
Officers found over 26,000 methamphetamine tablets in his pickup truck. Mr. Peeradej reportedly confessed his involvement in the drug trafficking operation due to the clear evidence.
Expanding their investigation, the police raided Mr. Peeradej’s residence in the Pluak Daeng district. There, they uncovered another 40,000 methamphetamine tablets hidden within the house. In total, police seized over 68,000 tablets in Mr. Peeradej’s possession.
During interrogation, Mr. Peeradej admitted to acquiring the methamphetamine from northern Thailand. He intended to sell the drugs to young adults and migrant workers in Rayong and Chonburi. He confessed that he had been selling drugs for over six months, while also being a chicken vendor, the suspect confessed.
Mr. Peeradej faced charges of possession of a category 1 controlled substance with intent to sell. He is currently in police custody.
