Pattaya-
As Thailand enters the rainy season, the cooler air provides an ideal environment for the growth of various wild mushrooms, including around Pattaya and Chonburi.
These mushrooms include both edible varieties and highly toxic ones. Across the country, wild mushrooms can be found in abundance, particularly in mountainous forest areas. Local culture often embraces wild mushroom consumption, leading to annual cases of illness and fatalities resulting from ingesting poisonous mushrooms.
According to the Department of Disease Control’s outbreak monitoring program, there have been three documented outbreaks of food poisoning caused by consuming poisonous mushrooms since January 1, 2024. These outbreaks resulted in 14 cases and one fatality. This year, the incidence of food poisoning from toxic mushrooms is on the rise. In response, Pattaya City authorities are issuing a warning to the public to exercise caution when handling and consuming wild mushrooms.
🍄 **Safety Tips:**
1. **Know Your Mushrooms:** If you’re uncertain about a mushroom’s edibility, refrain from picking or eating it.
2. **Avoid Risky Consumption:** If you’re not well-versed in mushroom identification, err on the side of caution.
3. **Stay Informed:** Keep track of local advisories and stay updated on mushroom-related health risks.
Remember: “I don’t know mushrooms, I’m not sure, I don’t pick them, I don’t eat them.”
❤️ Best wishes from the Disease Prevention and Control Department, Pattaya City. Stay safe! 🫰🏻
