On July 13th, 2024, the Thai Meteorological Department issued a warning about heavy to very heavy rain across Thailand and strong winds over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand from July 14-18, 2024.
A strong monsoon trough will pass through northern and northeastern Thailand into a low-pressure area in the central South China Sea. Coupled with a strengthened southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, these conditions will result in increased rainfall and heavy to very heavy rain in several areas across Thailand.
Residents are advised to prepare for possible flash floods and landslides, particularly in mountainous and low-lying regions. Caution is also urged when traveling through storm-affected areas.
In the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand, waves are expected to reach 2-3 meters, with stormy areas seeing waves exceeding 3 meters. In the lower Andaman Sea and the lower Gulf of Thailand, waves will be around 2 meters, with stormy areas experiencing higher waves.
Mariners should exercise caution, avoid sailing in stormy conditions, and small boats in the Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand should remain ashore during this period.
