Pattaya —

Chonburi immigration officers arrested a Chinese man believed to be a leader of a call center scam gang in Pattaya on July 12th, 2024. The suspect recently fled from Malaysia to Thailand.

The arrest took place at a restaurant in a shopping mall on Soi Noen Phlap Wan. The suspect, identified only as Mr. Liu, 39, was apprehended on charges of illegally entering Thailand. He was nabbed just before getting into his luxury white BMW parked in front of the restaurant.

The arrest came after intelligence reports indicated that Mr. Liu had fled Malaysia to Thailand to avoid prosecution. It was reported that Mr. Liu had previously traveled to Malaysia to collect debts from a fellow Chinese national but was apprehended by the Malaysian authorities. After being released on bail, Mr. Liu illegally crossed the natural border into Thailand through Betong, Yala province, and then traveled to and hid in Pattaya.

Upon his arrest, Mr. Liu was unable to show his passport as it had been confiscated by the Malaysian police. Police are investigating his potential accomplices who helped him sneak into Thailand.
