Yala —
On July 11th, 2024, Mr. Amorn Chumchuay, the Betong District Chief, ordered relevant agencies to integrate their forces and enhance security measures throughout the area, with a particular focus on urban zones following the KOMPI group’s retaliatory attacks against state officials.
Rapid response units have been deployed to patrol the outskirts and border areas in Betong, while checkpoints and roadblocks have been established at designated times to build confidence among residents and tourists.
This action follows security alerts from intelligence agencies, reporting insurgent activity in Yaha, Yala. The insurgents, believed to be part of the KOMPI group’s operational network, are planning retaliatory attacks against state officials.
Their tactics include planting bombs, throwing grenades, and ambushing patrol units, particularly between July 10th and 20th, 2024, according to the officers.
Previously, on the night of July 9th, Yala police received reports of armed robberies targeting village defense volunteers. A large number of insurgents, disguised as ranger officers, stole firearms from multiple locations.
These attacks are considered retaliation against recent law enforcement operations that led to the arrest of several insurgent suspects. In response, security levels have been heightened, and relevant agencies are actively gathering evidence to track and apprehend the perpetrators.
