Pattaya —
Heavy downpours for over an hour on Wednesday morning, July 11th, caused flash flooding in Pattaya, affecting several roads and causing traffic disruptions.
The sudden downpour around 8 AM today resulted in water levels rising to over 50-80 centimeters in some areas. This caused several roads to become impassable for small vehicles and motorcycles, particularly along the railway line from Soi Khao Talo to Soi Wat Tham, Sukhumvit Road, and Nong Mai Kaen Road.
The rapid flooding caused inconvenience and disruption to numerous residents. The floodwaters also seeped into some homes and caused damage to furniture.
According to reports, one motorist, identified only as Ms. Pui, 43, attempted to drive through the flooded section of the railway road when her car suddenly stopped due to the high water level. The car was then swept away by the strong currents and nearly submerged. Fortunately, Ms. Pui managed to escape the vehicle safely.
Ms. Pui later told local media that she had just dropped her child off at school when the heavy rain started. She noticed the flooded road ahead but underestimated the water depth. As she drove through the flooded section, the water rose quickly, causing her car to stop before being swept away by the currents.
Pattaya City workers are cleaning the affected areas as the water recedes.
