Heroic 82-Year-Old Woman in Sattahip Gives CPR to Electrician to Save Him from Electrocution

Sattahip —

An 82-year-old Thai woman in Sattahip has become a social media hero after she used a rope to pull an electrician to safety from a potential electrocution and gave the man CPR to save his life.

The viral incident occurred on July 8th, 2024, at a house in the Plu Ta Luang sub-district, Sattahip district, Chonburi province. Emergency responders received a report of an electrician suffering from an electrical shock and rushed to the scene.

Upon arrival, responders found 61-year-old electrician Mr. Somsak lying on a wooden table in front of the house. Although the man was still conscious and able to communicate, he appeared weak after getting shocked.

Mr. Somsak explained that he was using a ladder to climb to the rooftop to repair a faulty electrical line. However, he accidentally touched a metal gutter that had leaking electricity, causing him to be shocked and immobilized.

Fortunately, the homeowner, Mrs. Sa-ngiem Keuk-kong, 82, witnessed the incident and rushed to help. She grabbed a rope, put it around Mr. Somsak’s right ankle, and pulled him down from the ladder, freeing him from the electrical shock. Mr. Somsak fell to the ground and completely lost consciousness. Without hesitation, Mrs. Sa-ngiem performed CPR on Mr. Somsak and successfully brought him back to life.

The entire incident was captured on the home’s security camera, showing Mrs. Sa-ngiem proficiently giving Mr. Somsak CPR. The 82-year-old hero also did not directly touch Mr. Somsak and instead used a robe, knowing she might also get shocked.

Mrs. Sa-ngiem later told local media that she hired Mr. Somsak to fix a faulty electrical line at her house. She said she learned the CPR from a YouTube video on her phone.

Mrs. Sa-ngiem’s story went viral on Thai social media, with many people praising her bravery and quick thinking despite her age.
