Fatal Accident at Unguarded Railway Crossing in Phichit Kills Five, Injures Two

At 6:15 PM, on July 8th, 2024, Mueang Phichit police received a report of a fatal accident involving a Bangkok–Phitsanulok train colliding with a pickup truck carrying seven individuals in Mueang Phichit, Phichit. The collision resulted in five deaths and two severe injuries.

Rescuers from Mueang Phichit and other relevant agencies arrived at the scene to find the pickup truck severely damaged. The train, number 201, was heading to Phitsanulok when it crashed into the pickup truck between the Phichit and Ban Tha Lo railway stations. The accident occurred at an unguarded railway crossing with no barrier system or signal.

Initial reports confirmed that five individuals, including a 14-year-old, were deceased, and two others sustained serious injuries. It was later reported that the victims were heading to attend the funeral of their relative at a local temple.

Railway officers Mr. Phinit Waichotkarn and Mr. Nares Mandee stated that train number 201 was en route to Phitsanulok from Bangkok. At the accident scene, there was no barrier system, and the truck crossed the railway at a dangerously close range.

The railway officers reportedly turned on the siren to warn the pickup truck, but it was too late, and the train collided with the truck, causing the tragic accident.

The names of the victims were withheld by authorities.
