Thai Man Arrested in Pattaya for Threatening to Release Explicit Media of French Ex-Lover

Pattaya —

On July 6th, 2024, the Thai Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) captured a suspect in Pattaya, Chonburi, under a criminal court warrant for alleged extortion of a French woman and threatening to upload obscene media accessible to the public.

The suspect, publicly identified only as Mr. Chalermwut (40), was arrested at a condominium in Pattaya, Chonburi.
Chalermwut and a French victim reportedly recorded obscene activities while they were together in Thailand in 2017. Later, when the victim moved to work in Vietnam, Chalermwut followed.
Their relationship went south after that, leading to a severe relationship that resulted in Chalermwut being expelled from the victim’s residence and returning to Thailand in 2022.
Two years after their breakup, the victim reported to police having received threats from Chalermwut demanding 900 Euros. Chalermwut allegedly threatened to release the explicit media online if the payment was not made. He then reportedly created social media accounts in a plan to post explicit content across various platforms, coercing the victim into compliance. The victim then reported the case to the TCSD, leading to Chalermwut’s arrest.

During the interrogation, Chalermwut admitted to the relationship and acknowledged that he had followed the victim to Vietnam, where he claimed to have been assaulted and expelled without financial support.
His inability to contact the victim fueled his anger, prompting him to admittedly threaten to post the explicit images in a bid to extort money. After receiving the payment, he was subsequently arrested. The suspect has been handed over to investigators at TCSD for further legal proceedings.
