Man with Disabilities Dies After Being Hit by Car on Chonburi Highway

Chonburi —

A 28 Year-old Thai man with disabilities died after being hit by a car on Highway 331 in Chonburi province early Friday morning, July 4th. He was reported to have been abandoned on the road by his supposed friend.

The tragic accident unfolded at 12:36 AM on Highway 331 inbound to Chonburi in the Khao Mai Kaeow sub-district, Banglamung district. Upon arrival, rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation found the road dimly lit.

In the middle of the road, rescuers discovered the body of Mr. Amae Mayeo, a 28 Year-old Thai citizen from Chiang Rai province, lying deceased in a pool of blood. An investigation by Huay Yai police uncovered that the victim was physically disabled in his legs and arms.

Rescuers covered the body with a white cloth before transferring him to a local hospital. On the side of the road, they also found a white Toyota Vigo pickup truck with severe damage to its front. The driver, Mr. Thirawat Sukprasert, 19, was waiting for authorities.

According to Mr. Thirawat, who was uninjured, he was travelling to Khao Mai Kaeow on the dimly-lit road. He claimed that there was a car in front of him, and suddenly he was startled to see a person lying in the middle of the road. He swerved to avoid the body, causing his pickup truck to crash into the roadside. He asserted that he did not hit the deceased and claimed the victim was already lying in the road.

Huay Yai police are reviewing CCTV footage in the area to justify Mr. Thirawat’s statement. News reports from other Thai media indicated that Mr. Amae had been left by his supposed friend on the roadside the previous night and was seen sleeping and eating nearby as seen below. Local residents had found him and contacted the authorities, but unfortunately, he passed away before help could arrive.
