Pattaya —
Pattaya City, in collaboration with the Pattaya Marine Department, is reviving the “Pattaya Model” plan to regulate water tourism activities in Pattaya Bay, with the aim of enhancing marine safety.
Mr. Poramase Ngampichet, Mayor of Pattaya City, and Mr. Ekkarat Kantaro, Director of the Pattaya Regional Marine Department, held a meeting on July 2nd to discuss the matter.
According to Mr. Poramase, Pattaya City has been in full gear to revitalize its tourism economy since the easing of the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, the city is attempting to implement zoning measures to organize water activities in Pattaya Bay for the safety of swimmers and beachgoers.
However, Mr. Poramase acknowledged that some businesses have not adhered to the prior regulations. Therefore, the meeting was arranged to ensure all parties involved in marine activities understand and follow the zoning regulations in Pattaya Bay.
The mayor explained that the zoning regulations include separate areas for jet skiing, banana boating, and speed boating to prevent overlap and improve safety. The rules came after speedboats were observed encroaching on swimming areas, posing risks to swimmers.
The zoning regulations will set a 300-meter zone from the shore for jet skiing, followed by areas for banana boating and parasailing. Specific anchor points for boats will also be established both north and south of Pattaya. Additionally, the city will strictly enforce laws against operators leaving jet skis on the beach overnight to improve the beach’s scenery, the mayor concluded.
