Drunk Pattaya Man Taunts Older Man, Gets Head Split Open with Machete

Pattaya —

A drunk Thai man suffered a gaping head wound after being attacked by an older man he mocked, apparently for his age, near Pattaya on the evening of June 18th, 2024.

The incident occurred on the roadside near Wat Huai Yai in the Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Huai Yai police and rescue workers rushed to the scene after receiving a report at 9:36 PM.

Upon arrival, officers found a crowd gathered around a 36-year-old Thai man, identified as Mr. Wirayuth Chomthalak. Mr. Wirayuth had sustained a large, severe gash on his head from a sharp object. He was bleeding profusely and appeared intoxicated. Rescue workers provided initial medical aid before rushing him to the nearest hospital.

The alleged attacker, 58-year-old Mr. Thongchai Tiendang, was also injured. Bystanders helped catch Mr. Thongchai before the police arrived.

According to Mr. Wirayuth, he knew the attacker. He claimed that he was just playfully teasing Mr. Thongchai, who apparently took offense to the joke, as Mr. Thongchai attacked Mr. Wirayuth with a machete.

Mr. Thongchai, on the other hand, stated that he usually did not mind the jokes about his age. However, this time, he believed that Mr. Wirayuth, who was drunk, was threatening him. This caused him to act impulsively and grabbed a machete and attacked Mr. Wirayuth, who retaliated with a baseball bat.

Huai Yai police detained the suspect and are continuing the investigation.
