Fishing Boat Capsizes in Chonburi, One Man Survives, Captain Missing

Laem Chabang-

On June 5th, 2024, near the dam at Laem Chabang Port in Chonburi Province, Thailand, a fishing umbrella boat capsized about 1.2 nautical miles from the mouth of the Banglamung Canal.

There were two people on board: Mr. Chiang, a 23-year-old Cambodian, and the boat owner, Mr. Wichai Malison, aged 50. The boat had a leak, and strong waves caused it to capsize immediately.

Mr. Chiang managed to swim back to shore by holding onto a fuel tank, but the boat owner disappeared after having previously been seen hanging onto a plank. Despite efforts to locate him, rescue workers have not yet found Mr. Wichai as of press time. The search team continues to patrol the coast and the area near the shipwreck, but his fate remains unknown.

A video of the rescue efforts is on our YouTube here.

The Pattaya News will continue to update this developing story as more details and information come in from relevant authorities.
