Thai Meteorological Department Warns of Heavy Rainfall and Flash Floods from June 1-7, 2024

On June 1st, 2024, the Thai Meteorological Department released a weather forecast for the upcoming seven days, from June 1st to the 7th, 2024.

From June 2nd to the 7th, 2024, a moderate southwest monsoon will prevail over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Additionally, a low-pressure area will cover the upper coastal region of Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin. This weather pattern will cause heavy rainfall in some areas and very heavy rainfall in parts of the northern, upper northeastern, central, and eastern regions of Thailand.

From June 1st to the 3rd, 2024, moderate winds and waves are expected in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. In the upper Andaman Sea, waves will reach heights of 1-2 meters, while in the lower Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, waves will be around 1 meter high. During thunderstorms, waves may exceed 2 meters.

From June 4th to the 7th, 2024, waves in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand will remain at 1-2 meters, and in the lower Andaman Sea and lower Gulf of Thailand, waves will be around 1 meter high, with waves higher than 2 meters in thunderstorm areas.

Additionally, Tropical Storm “Maliksi” located over Guangdong province, China, is moving north-northeast at a speed of approximately 15 kilometers per hour. It is expected to weaken into a tropical depression and then into a strong low-pressure area. Citizens in the affected areas should check the weather conditions before traveling.

Thai citizens should be cautious of the dangers posed by heavy to very heavy rainfall and accumulated precipitation, which could lead to flash floods and forest runoff, especially in hilly areas near waterways and low-lying regions.

Sailors in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea should navigate carefully and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms.
