Pattaya Big Bike Rider Surrenders After Reckless Stunt Video in Pattaya Tunnel Goes Viral

Pattaya —

A 20-year-old Thai man surrendered to Pattaya police after a video of himself performing a dangerous stunt by riding his motorbike with the front wheel up inside the Pattaya Central Tunnel went viral on social media, as seen here on our Facebook.

The surrender took place at 8 PM on June 2nd at the Pattaya Police Station. The suspect, identified by Pattaya police only as Mr. Wachirawit, 20, confessed to being the driver in the video. He reportedly admitted to recklessly performing the wheelie, claiming he was “impressed by the new lighting in the tunnel” and simply wanted to get a nice video of himself performing the stunt with the new lighting. He also confessed that he was aware motorcycles were prohibited from using the tunnel, but he intentionally entered it anyway to get the footage.

The person who filmed him was his friend, Mr. Wachirawit said, adding he never expected the footage would go viral and he was unsure how the footage was shared outside of his small circle.

Pol. Col Nawin Theerawit, Superintendent of the Pattaya Police Station, explained that Mr. Wachirawit’s actions constitute up to five offenses, including reckless driving or driving in a manner that shows disregard for the safety of oneself or others, driving without a license, disobeying a traffic sign, driving in a prohibited area, and not displaying a registration plate.

Authorities have detained Mr. Wachirawit for further legal proceedings. His white Yamaha R7 motorbike used in the stunt has also been seized and impounded.
