On May 31st, 2024, Thai Government spokesperson Chai Watcharong announced that, according to Global Trade Atlas (GTA), Thailand exported over 121,398 tonnes of durian to China, valued at 717 million USD, securing the top spot in durian exports.

GTA data shows that Thailand leads in fresh durian exports to China, with 121,398 tonnes worth 717 million USD. In comparison, Vietnam, ranked second, exported 79,186 tonnes valued at 369 million USD.

Chai highlighted the satisfaction with the increasing Chinese demand for Thai durian. Minister of Commerce Phumtham Wechayachai is actively seeking new markets in secondary Chinese cities through international collaboration.

Thailand’s durian exports are priced at 6 USD per kilogram, higher than last year’s price, according to Chai.
Additionally, with the temporary tax exemption on mangoes and a fruit shortage in Korea, mango exports have surged by 230% compared to last year. The Minister of Commerce plans to pursue further tax exemption policies for fruits with Korea.

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has instructed relevant agencies to adopt clear guidelines and adaptive strategies to position Thailand as a global agricultural and food hub in the future.
