Chiang Rai Drug Bust: Suspect Escapes as Authorities Seize 2 Million Amphetamine Pills

On May 31st, 2024, the Northern Border Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) and relevant agencies announced the seizure of 2 million amphetamine pills in Mae Chan, Chiang Rai.

According to the NSB, this operation was a proactive effort of the Thai government and law enforcement agencies to eradicate drug smuggling networks in the northern region.

According to NSB officers, they received an anonymous report on May 30th about an impending drug smuggling operation from the Thai border to Chiang Rai. In response to the report, NSB officers identified a suspicious vehicle in Mae Fah Luang, Chiang Rai, and initiated surveillance.

The officers approached the vehicle for inspection as the suspect began discarding rucksacks in Mae Chan. The suspect, realizing the presence of law enforcement, managed to drive his vehicle away.

Upon searching the abandoned vehicle, officers discovered 10 rucksacks containing over 2 million amphetamine pills. The NSB pledged to continue their investigation to bring all individuals involved to justice.
