On May 30th, 2024, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt and Mr. Wilas Chaloeysat, Governor of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to advance smart city development and renewable energy projects.
Governor Chadchart emphasized that, as Thailand’s capital and economic hub, the Bangkok Government is committed to sustainable energy and efficiency, particularly through the use of solar power systems. He highlighted the Bangkok Energy Action Plan, designed to address climate change in line with the Bangkok Master Plan on Climate Change 2021-2030.
The plan incorporates clean energy initiatives, including solar power systems, Wi-Fi-enabled smart light bulbs, and other IoT devices, essential for transforming Bangkok into a smart city.
Wilas stated that the MEA, an international leader in electricity distribution technology, is dedicated to supporting Bangkok’s smart city ambitions. By leveraging renewable energy systems, the MEA aims to meet sustainable development goals, combat climate change, and promote energy conservation for a low-carbon society.
