Allegedly Drunk Driver Crashes Pickup Truck into Electric Pole in Pattaya

An allegedly drunk driver crashed his pickup truck into a streetlight in Pattaya early Thursday morning, injuring himself.

The incident occurred at 2:20 AM on May 30th on Sukhumvit Road in the Banglamung distrct, Chonburi province. Emergency responders and The Pattaya News team rushed to the scene following a report of the accident.

Upon arrival, rescue workers found a white Nissan Navara pickup truck overturned in the median. The driver, an unidentified Thai man in his 40s or 50s, was found trapped and injured inside the wreckage. The rescuers extricated him from the wreckage before taking him to Banglamung Hospital for treatment. The man was also allegedly drunk, according to rescue workers.

An eyewitness, Mr. Chaiwat Thodphakdee, 20, said that he saw the pickup truck swerving and speeding before it crashed into a streetlight. He also noted that the driver appeared to be intoxicated.

Pattaya police are investigating the accident as of press time. They are also checking to see if he was driving under the influence of alcohol, having planned to conduct a blood alcohol test at the hospital.
