Pattaya —
An elderly Austrian man of 74 years old tragically drowned at a condo pool in Pattaya on the night of May 27th, 2024.
The incident occurred at an unidentified condominium complex in the Naklua area of Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Banglamung police and rescue workers rushed to the scene after getting reports of a foreigner drowning around 9:30 PM.
Upon arrival, authorities found the body of the victim, identified as 74-year-old Mr. Aichmann Johann, lying by the poolside. According to reports, Mr. Johann was pulled out of the water by the condominium security personnel. He immediately received CPR, but unfortunately Mr. Johann passed away at the scene as he reportedly submerged too long.
The victim’s wife, Mrs. Warinya, 53, and his unidentified 19-year-old daughter were present at the scene and were visibly distraught. Mrs. Warinya stated that her husband was an avid swimmer and regularly used the pool alone. She and her daughter were cooking in the room, waiting for Mr. Johann, but he did not return at his usual time. When Mrs. Warinya descended from the room, she was shocked to find that her husband had already drowned.
According to the condo security guard, Mr. Kosin Moomsila, 39, he noticed the victim’s towel lying unattended by the pool. He then went to check the nearby sea and did not find anybody. Mr. Kosin did not notice the victim until Mr. Johanna’s body began to float upwards from the bottom of the pool. He immediately pulled the victim from the water and gave him CPR, but it was too late.
Banglamung police are currently examining the scene and interviewing potential witnesses. The deceased’s body will be transported to the Police General Hospital’s Institute of Forensic Medicine for further examination to determine the exact cause of death.
