On May 16th, 2024, the Thai Special Service Division (SSD) and relevant agencies held a press conference after a raid operation at several condominiums in Bangkok to capture three foreign suspects and a Thai suspect allegedly involved in the illegal distribution of modified e-cigarettes containing illicit substances.
According to the police report, the SSD investigated a case of modified e-cigarettes containing methamphetamine and other illicit substances that were being sold among visitors at entertainment venues in Bangkok. The police coordinated with relevant agencies and informed them of a new type of drug hidden in the form of e-cigarettes called “Pod K”.
Upon initial investigation, the police found out that the new drug type in e-cigarettes included methamphetamine, heroin, happy water, and other illicit substances, and was distributed on online shopping platforms for 4,000 baht a piece. The distribution source was located at a condominium in the Thonglor area, Bangkok, according to the SSD.
On May 15th, the SSD officers reportedly operated and captured two suspects, publicly identified only as Mr. Jayden, a Singaporean national, and Ms. Ketdao, a Thai national, with e-cigarettes containing illicit substances.
Moreover, the two suspects had been found to have stored a massive lot of e-cigarettes containing various types of illicit substances. The police investigated the case further and captured two other involved individuals, publicly identified only as Ms. Maria, a Philippine national, and Mr. Joel, a Singaporean national, at a condominium in the Rama 9 area, Bangkok.
Initially, the officers escorted the four suspects and seized property in dispute to the Makkasan police station for further legal processing.
