Fire Breaks Out at Pattaya Condominium, Causing Extensive Damage

Pattaya —

A fire broke out at the Center Condotel condominium on Pattaya South Road in the early hours of May 17th, causing extensive damage to one unit and prompting the evacuation of the building’s residents.

A video of the fire can be seen here on our YouTube channel.

The fire was reported at around 3:36 AM, prompting a response from firefighters and Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan rescue workers. Upon their arrival, authorities found flames burning on the 12th floor. The flames were spreading to the 13th floor, with smoke billowing into the sky.

Rescue workers quickly evacuated residents of the condo. Firefighters then battled the blaze for over an hour. Once the flames were extinguished, an investigation revealed that the fire had originated in a room on the 12th floor. The room and its contents were completely destroyed.

Mr. Kraithong Chulanan, a 45-year-old security guard at the condominium, told The Pattaya News that the room belonged to a British tourist identified only as Mr. Michael, 75. Prior to the fire, other residents reported smelling smoke and seeing flames coming from the unit. Security personnel immediately responded and attempted to extinguish the fire using fire extinguishers, but the flames quickly escalated beyond their control. Mr. Kraithong then contacted the firefighters.

Pattaya police have not yet determined the cause of the fire. The scene will be further examined by the forensic team to identify the exact cause. However, police initially estimated that the damages could be as much as one million baht.

Additionally, Pattaya police will summon Mr. Michael, the room owner, for an interview. It was reported that the British man was able to escape the fire largely unharmed other than minor burns.
