Pattaya —
The Pattaya Business and Tourism Association (PBTA) has expressed concern over the uncontrolled alcohol consumption at Jomtien Beach, which has led to several issues.
In an interview with local media on August 10th, 2023, the PBTA president, Mr. Bunanan Pattanasin, said that the excessive drinking at Jomtien Beach has been causing problems for tourists and locals alike. It has led to increased levels of noise and litter, as well as public intoxication, rowdy behavior, and even illegal drug use.
Bunanan went on to say that from Jomtien Beach he has received several complaints regarding firecracker usage, loud music, and some traders reportedly selling alcoholic beverages illegally and even narcotics.
He said that these unregulated behaviors are damaging the reputation of Pattaya as a family tourist destination. It is deterring families and other tourists from visiting the beach, which is a major economic driver for the city.
“These drinking sessions are conducted and last until 7 in the morning almost every day. It is transforming Jomtien Beach into a new hub of late-night illegal revelry,” Bunanan said.
The fact that Jomtien Beach is open to the public 24 hours a day is a vital factor of the overall problems, according to Bunanan.
Bunanan said that if possible, he wants the city to establish specific opening and closing hours for the beach to address the issues, along with cooperating with the police authorities to tackle the illegal activities.
