Pattaya Authorities Inspect Homeless Community Near Bali Hai Pier

Pattaya —

A group of Pattaya authorities inspected a homeless community near the Bali Hai Pier on June 2nd.

The visit was in response to the public’s concerns regarding the presence of homeless individuals, which raised safety concerns for both local residents and tourists. Some tourists had reportedly demanded for authorities to remove the homeless entirely, saying it made Pattaya look bad, but city officials said the issue wasn’t as simple as this and such a move would violate human rights.

Upon inspection, authorities found that some individuals were actually employed but sought temporary shelter during their leisure time when they had no work. Preliminary discussions were held to better understand their situation. However, due to their human rights, authorities said they were unable to forcibly relocate them to different locations.

Consequently, authorities said they would clean the area and persuade the individuals to move to a more comfortable shelter. Some of the homeless people were also taken to Banglamung Hospital to have their health checked.
