National —

56 drug suspects, 24 of which are Chinese, have been detained following a karaoke bust in Bangkok on Friday.

Our previous story:

Exclusive luxury parties only for Chinese nationals were raided at karaoke rooms in Bangkok and 48 Chinese people and illegal drugs were found.

Now for our update:

The suspects have been interrogated and detained under suspicions of taking illegal drugs, overstaying, and carrying guns without permission.

The 56 suspects were transported to the Ratchada Criminal Court for detention. Among them, there is one Chinese suspect who needs to be sent to the Phra Nakhon Nuea Court because they are charged with overstaying their visa.

Relevant police have suggested not giving the suspects bail but that will be a decision for Thai courts, possibly as early as tomorrow.

Pattaya police raided a similar Karaoke over the weekend but nothing was found in this particular raid. Officially, police would not state if it was related to the Bangkok raid.

The Bangkok venue raided was exclusively for high spending Chinese, said police involved in the raid, and disallowed other nationalities from entering. Police are still investigating the management and ownership of the venue and several police in districts around the venue have been transferred as a standard part of the investigation process.
