Thailand’s Move Forward Party Discussing Decentralization

The Move Forward Party (MFP) has held an unofficial meeting with provincial and municipal administration groups to discuss the implementation of administrative policies once the new government is officially elected.

MFP leader Pita Limjaroenrat and members of the party met with leaders of local administrative organizations at the National Municipal Association of Thailand head office on June 1. The MFP leader stated that he wants to hear ideas and proposals from local administrators as part of his preparations to implement the policies of the new government.

One of the topics discussed during the unofficial meeting was the decentralization of power and the strengthening of local administrations. The MFP leader noted that, while decentralization is important for progress, it must be implemented gradually and with the participation of the people.

Pita also stated that he will reconsider the tenure limit of two four-year terms for local administrators, emphasizing the importance of allowing voters to decide whether or not to re-elect them. He expressed gratitude to all parties for participating in the discussion and is looking forward to working with them once the new government assumes office.

The preceding is a press release from the Thai government.
