Phuket to be Announced as First Province in Thailand that is Rabies Free

Phuket will be officially announced by the Department of Disease Control (DDC) as the first province in Thailand that is rabies free.

The Phuket Vice Governor Danai Sunantharod told the Phuket Express that the director general of the DDC Doctor Tanet Kratsanaitawiwong said they are successfully supporting Phuket as the first rabies free province in Thailand. There are no recent deaths from rabies in the province after they have continued to prevent and control rabies disease in both animals and humans.

In 2018 there were 18 people who died from rabies disease in Thailand. However, last year the number of deaths from rabies disease was only three people.

In the past 15 years, no one in Phuket has died from rabies disease. Phuket will be officially announced as the first province in Thailand that is rabies free. This will allow tourists to have more confidence when visiting Phuket.
