Thailand-
Today, May 31st 2023, is World No Tobacco Day as designated by the World Health Organization, or WHO.
The day is designed, according to the WHO, to build awareness around the dangers of smoking. In particular, it is designed to highlight the health risks of smoking and the potential dangerous impact of secondhand smoke to non-smokers.
In Thailand, meanwhile, the Non-Smoking Campaign Foundation and the Tobacco Consumption Control Network are focusing on vaping, which they say is a major and growing concern for youth.
Therefore, the campaign slogan for World No Tobacco Day 2023 in Thailand is “E-cigarettes are toxic, addictive, dangerous”.
Thailand has some of the strictest anti-vaping laws in the world, notes TPN, although many activists and groups have been fighting to legalize it, focusing on the fact that it is, according to them, a safer alternative than cigarettes and helps many people quit smoking.
In Bangkok, meanwhile, Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said on May 30th, 2023, that he considers every day no smoking day and his team will focus on enforcement of smoking laws across the capital.
Thailand has many smoking-related laws but they are rarely enforced which leads to regular complaints from non-smokers about people lighting up in public areas, bars, restaurants, and more. For more about Thailand’s no smoking laws from us please click or tap here.
