Pattaya —

Pattaya Tourist Police headed to the beachfront of Pattaya yesterday, May 27th, to warn individuals idling at the area not to sell sexual services to tourists.

The inspection was also to ensure that these people at the beach would not create any issues that could impact the tourism industry and good image of Pattaya, said Pol. Lt. Col. Pichaya Kheawpluang from the Tourist Police Department.

Nobody was arrested or fined last night, according to Pol. Lt. Col. Pichaya. However, he emphasized that law enforcement officers would launch this impromptu inspection regularly to prevent crimes including the selling of sexual services.

The Pattaya News notes that the operation is in accordance with the orders of deputy national police chief Pol. Gen. Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn who pledges to crackdown on illegal enterprises around the Kingdom.

This is the second time this month police have enforced prostitution laws on Pattaya Beach.

This also comes as the incoming new Thai government mulls decriminalizing or even legalizing prostitution in Thailand.
